The online world truly does light me up. I have made and maintained some seriously rad friends thanks to having an online home. And while I love, and will continue to love the internet for giving me these friendships – there’s nothing quite like an in person catch up to feel that true sense of connection.
Something that also lights me up? Adventure. A word that has been a bit of a focus for me this year. I crave adventure. A chance to revel in something new. To be spontaneous. To discover and delight in the unknown. Or to truly appreciate and engage in something that has been right in front of you all along. Call it exploration, call it wanderlust. Either way – I want more of it.
So when I was lucky enough to be given a brand spanking new Ford EcoSport Titanium to drive around for a few weeks, as part of the Kidspot Voices of 2014 Blogger awards, I took it as a sign that it was time for my little family and I to break up the usual routine and get out there. It’s time for adventure. It’s time to connect.
It’s time for a day trip.
We packed up the car, and headed over to Geelong. The EcoSport may be a car designed for zipping around an inner city, but it also has plenty of room on the inside, and we managed to fit everything we needed for a day of fun and frolicking on the other side of the Bay. It really is just the right size.
First stop – King of the Castle Cafe in Geelong. I had heard so much about this little gem, and drooled over pictures on Instagram – and it did not disappoint. It’s a big call, but I quite possibly had the best almond milk chai latte of my life. Win!
It also happened to be their 1st Birthday and my beautiful friend Harry was there with the famous (and oh so cute) smoothie van. And to top it all off, we arranged to meet the gorgeous Nic and her family.
It was a morning of catch ups, children chasing, smoothie drinking + raw dessert eating (both made by the seriously talented Harry!), laughter and hugs.
There is nothing quite like embracing a online friend in the flesh. Someone you feel like you have known for so long. Joy. Connection. And then to meet their families – their children, partners and loved ones – filled me with so much happiness. It reminded me exactly why I love the online world so damn much.
This blissful morning was followed by an afternoon of markets, more eating, more catch ups with old friends, a couple of beers, more laughter and more joy.
More of this, please, life!
I believe a break in routine can be just the thing you need to dust away the cobwebs and feel recharged.
We left Geelong and headed back to the Peninsula with big smiles, full tummies, lots of happy memories and rocking road trip playlist. I really do heart day trips. More of those too, please life!
Are you a lover of the day trip? Where should be next on my list? If you could choose your own adventure – where would you go?
With love & light,
