Be Me

From the very moment I started this blog, I made a promise to myself that I would be me.

100% authentically Amelia.

This blog was to be a reflection of me, my values, and the way I live my life.  I would write when I want to write, not when I felt I should write.  I would write to inspire, I would write to tell my story, I would write to share my knowledge.  And I believe I have stayed true to that.

Authenticity is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but it’s a word that is incredibly important to me.

For someone who lived a lot of their young adult life being a person who feared to be her true self, who did things to please others, who acted in a way in which to try to fit in and who was pretty lost; standing up now and being me is something I value greatly.

I am more me now than I ever have been.  I will now own my past.  I have forgiven myself for mistakes that have been made and I will stand up for myself when something doesn’t feel right.  I will no longer do things because I feel I should, or for fear of someone else’s opinion.  I do things that I believe in, that I’m passionate about and that sit right with my values.

I will never stop learning about myself.  But I am completely comfortable with that.  And I will never apologise for being me.  Just as you should never apologise for being you.

As part of my first week at Integrative Nutrition, we were asked to set our intention for the year.  What did we want to get out of the course?  What did we intend to do afterwards?  What words describe this intention?

This blog is really an extension of my studies.  A place for me to share what I learn.  So in the spirit of authenticity, I want to share with you my intention.

I intend to make an impact.  I want to add value in a way that is true to what I believe in.

I intend to soak up as much knowledge that I can, so I can share it with anyone who needs it.

I want my children to grow up in a healthy world in which eating well, moving your body and happiness is second nature to everyone.

I intend to help people to understand their bodies, to know what works for them, and to ultimately fall back in love with the person they truly are.  I want people to see how much they have to offer the world around them.  I want to see people stand up and be counted.  I want people to feel important.  I want to see people nurture their bodies, minds and souls from a place of total love.

I intend on spreading that ripple effect as far and as wide as I can.

While doing all this, I also want to be nurturing and honouring myself.  This year I will be the healthiest I have ever been.

Throughout the year, with the more I learn, my intention may change.  But I know one thing for sure – I am going to make a difference somehow.  And the only way I will do that is by being me.

  2. What a fabulous makeover – it was beautiful before, but its so soulful now!

Your intentions are inspiring.. a powerful thing to do… it definitely gives your year focus and clarity! I might have to do this exercise!! As I imagine it would help in those moments where we do lose a little bit of focus. It brings us back to where we are meant to be!
