You are scrolling through one of your favourite blogs, and you come across a post by one of your wellness sisters.  She just got back from an life-changing trip overseas.  “I am changed.  I am open.  I am free.”, she writes.

“I need to book a trip just like that”, you say to yourself as you reach for your credit card.

Beautiful, what I want to ask you today is – are you chasing the experience or the feeling?  What truly feels authentic for YOU?

Ultimately, we can never chase the same experience had by another person.  Because they are them, and you are you.  That is their journey, this is yours.  And even if you did do the exact same thing – it still wouldn’t be the same.

Absolutely, there are going to be times when taking inspiration from another person’s journey is exactly the thing you need.  The syncronicities will line up perfectly.  You will feel your soul nodding in agreement.  And you’ll know.  But you will also be able to acknowledge that while you may be heading to the same place, you are on a very different path.

On the other hand, when you feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day/dollars in the bank, to do all the holidays/courses that you have on your giant list – gently ask yourself – is it possible that I am chasing this experience to deter from the fact that another area of my life may be a little out of balance?

Are you searching externally for something, when instead you should be turning inward?

We’ve all been there.  Chasing a dream that doesn’t really belong to us – simply because, it sounded AMAZING!  And it was amazing… for them.

The important thing to remember is, if you listen to your heart, you will always be guided in the right direction.  I’m not saying don’t go to the same place as someone else you admire, I’m just asking you to before you book that next big trip, or max your credit card out on yet another course – bring yourself back to your heart space and ask yourself if this is truly something that is authentic for you.

Authenticity is YOU.  Living your life, for you.  You deserve to experience life at it’s absolute max.  Expand your soul and invite experiences into your world that are going to nourish you in every way.

Above all, TRUST in your intuition and the path you are on.  And know that those feelings you are chasing, are the right ones.

With so much love and gratitude,
Amelia xx

  1. Hey chicki. This is beautiful.

Just want to highlight that my post wasn’t about the FORM. The distinction I wanted to make wasn’t ‘go and have a rad holiday’, it was: ‘open your heart to the guidance that is all around you.’ That’s why the main conversational points of that post were based on that situation with the homeless man, and the synchronicities in my yoga class. Anyone else might percieve these as ordinary things, but not me. They were miraculous. That was the message of the post – let life be magical. Nobody needs to jump on a plane to do that.

    1. Ah thank you honey. 🙂
I absolutely understood the message of your post.
In writing this post, I was trying to express how in the past, I was ALL about the form. I would have read your post and thought “I need to have a rad holiday like that” – whereas now, rather than chase the same experience, I want to open myself up to that similar guidance. To that kind of magic, but in my own way. 🙂
      Love you girl. xx

Firstly, love your Grey top! where’s It from?
Secondly, how do you chase adventure, joy and spontaneity with kids? It’s 9 am and I haven’t had breakfast and I’m about to hang out washing!
Days all seem to roll Into one with the same tasks and routines. any suggestions?
    Much love xxxx

  4. This post is great Amelia! I read Tara’s post only moments after she posted it – always love her words. And i had a similar experience to you.
I was utterly inspired, (and yes, how cool would a trip to LA be – but equally with a bub in my belly and a 22 month old – not exactly practical right now!) but i felt more inspired to be living more consciously in a way that is more aware of all the signs around me and trusting and following that path as it unfolds. Bit by bit. Without expectations.
In my past, yep TOTALLY would hear about friends, bloggers, mentors & whoever doing cool stuff and think – i want that. I want to go there. I want that life. But i as ive grown, and learned more about who i am Ive realised the importance of living your own path, your own dreams – totally cool to be inspired by others, of course – but not living their life.
    Thank you, beautifully post. xo

  5. I’ve been meaning to come over to your blog for a while and say hi 🙂

You know, I’ve done plenty of the cool travelling trips but also plenty of the staying home, working right where I am stuff, too. I think we can get caught up in thinking everything has to happen NOW, without realising that there’s always plenty of time for doing what we love and want to do.

I remember thinking at age 30 that I’d missed the boat with the whole go overseas and have long term adventures thing… only to eventually realise that just ain’t so! Each of us have our adventures wherever we are, and at whatever time works best for our highest good.

    Thanks for sharing, love. x
